Lee’s blog

I worked with Lee Lawrence for 10 years on and off at Diagram. It has to be said that for the first eight years or so our interactions were somewhat impeded by a bit of a personality clash but eventually we established some kind of mutual respect through countless hours of playing Unreal Tournament (Roger the Cabin Boy vs Now You See Me allied with ToneRaider). A stag weekend in South Wales during which we helped each other in and out of tightly-fitting rubber suits (wet suits people, wet suits!) and added paint-ball injury to the suffering of 14-pint hangovers has left me with the feeling that I actually give a damn what happens to the old scoundrel.

When Diagram went into (ahem) temporary hibernation Mr Lawrence surprised us all by taking off to Manila for an indefinite period. Yes, there was a woman involved. It was one of those online meetings that seem to be so popular these days except that Lee became infatuated with a girl whose site had almost exclusively male viewers and had the words ‘live cam’ in the url. About that I have nothing else to say. Somehow he got himself embroiled with this lovely young Filipino girl and decided, not unreasonably, to take himself off to her home town and say hello. If his blog is anything to go by he’s having an absolutely marvelous time – and I’m not in the least bit surprised. Of course, conventional wisdom would have us believe that he will turn up in six months with empty pockets and prison tattoos, but I for one wish him the very best of luck.
